Learn to make your own fynbos fragrance

-

Fijn Botanicals is a range of beauty and cleaning products containing essential oils made from fynbos growing in the Langeberg region, the Cederberg and the Kouga Valley.

The range was born out of necessity: Liana Jansen, who co-owns the organic farm Kogman & Keisie outside Montagu, had to make her own natural cleaning products because their greywater is used in the garden. Since then, her love of herbs has grown along with the product range, and today Fijn Botanicals consists of body, hair and bath products, cleaning products, and body oils that are 100% biodegradable.

Liana used to work as a lecturer in landscape architecture, and teaching others remains one of her great loves. She therefore started offering workshops on the farm to share the knowledge she has gained as Fijn Botanicals developed. The weekend-long workshops, which focus on fynbos as a product ingredient, start with a mountain walk, during which Liana teaches attendees more about the landscape and plants. Everyone then harvests their own plants to take back to the Greenhouse. Here, Liana’s husband, Petrus, whose passion lies in farming in harmony with nature, explains and demonstrates the steam distillation process of creating essential oils, enabling you to make your own fynbos spray. (Petrus also grows heirloom seeds, which can be ordered online at growfolk.co.za.) The following day you will learn to make body butter and work on your own unique fynbos spray.
