Admire 50000 dahlias in bloom!

-

Since Adene Nieuwoudt started her flower business less than 10 years ago on her farm outside Wolseley, she has broadened the horizons of South Africa’s cut-flower industry. (Read the Platteland article in the Spring 2019 issue, #24.)

Adene’s Farm Flowers is 5 hectares in size and grows more than 200 varieties of flowers. More than 200 000 social media followers is a fair indication of the extent to which her flowers tug at the heartstrings.

The farm will have 50 000 dahlias in bloom until the end of August and flower lovers can admire them every weekend. Come and enjoy coffee and sweet treats under the old oak trees before choosing cut flowers (at farm prices) from the coldroom to take home with you.

When? Every weekend – Saturdays and Sundays from 08:00 to 12:30 – until the second weekend in April

Where? Platvlei farm, Wolseley

(75 minutes from Cape Town)

Price R70 p.p. (R50 for children) which includes a packet of seeds to the value of R65

Adene’s for all

If you want to create your own Adene’s patch in your back garden, take your pick from the 170 seed varieties available on her website, from agrostemmas to zinnias and everything in between. Annehette Troost designed all the packaging by hand (see page 120). You can also order fresh flowers online that are delivered countrywide.

Adene also opened her first wholesale flower shop in Paarden Eiland in Cape Town in December 2023. This flagship store has a 100 m2 coldroom filled with flowers for functions and weddings – both imported and supplied from her farm. Members of the public are also welcome to shop here for their flowers.

What’s more, Adene started a 0.5 ha “micro farm” at Val de Vie estate outside Paarl where visitors are welcome to pick and purchase flowers. Contact adeneflowers.co.za info@adeneflowers.co.za
