I photographed this giant kingfisher at the low-water bridge on Kwalata Drive, south-east of Mankwe Dam.

I like to visit the reserve with my sons. We normally leave as early as 4 am from our home near Magaliesburg so we can be there when the gate opens. We drive around for the entire day, until the gate closes again. Yup, we’re those people who just stop for a quick wee and coffee – too scared we might miss something!
