“Table Mountain National Park must be one of the most accessible reserves in the country. It has more hiking trails than dassies, and most are free. Hike the Kloof Corner Trail early morning or late afternoon to watch the sun rise over Cape Town or set in the sea. The trail starts in Tafelberg Road near the Kloof Nek water treatment plant and gives you a great view without having to slog to the top of Table Mountain.

“After just 20 minutes you’ll be sitting on a rock on the corner of the mountain. To the right is the city bowl, and in the hazy distance are the mountains of the Swartland and the Boland. Lion’s Head rises in front of you, and if you look left, the Atlantic Ocean stretches out to the horizon.”
