“My mom and I were lucky enough to stay at Skilpad Flower Camp in the Namaqua National Park in September 2021. The nights were bitterly cold, but we woke up to a hillside covered in orange and purple daisies every morning. We got to live among the flowers for two days, savouring a phenomenon most people only drive past.

“Skilpad is known for its carpets of vygies and daisies, in colours ranging from fuchsia to sunshine yellow, but we also saw lilies and aloes between the pans.

“Outside of flower season, the park retains its beauty. The sky seems magnified by the landscape’s vast plains, rocky outcrops and jarring outlines.”
