DIAMOND ROUTE RESERVES
De Beers Group owns a collection of nature reserves in South Africa, three of which are clustered around Kimberley.
Dronfield Nature Reserve, about 8 km north of the city. Go on a guided game drive or visit the vulture hide – white-backed vultures have been monitored here for more than 20 years. You can stay in a selfcatering chalet.
Benfontein Nature Reserve, about 15 km south-east of the city. This reserve prides itself on its nocturnal species, like aardwolf, aardvark and black-footed cat. Basic accommodation is available, and you can also go on birdwatching outings. Rooipoort Nature Reserve, about 65 km north-west of the city. Karoo, Kalahari and grassland vegetation zones meet here. There are rock engravings and many animals including buffalo, sable antelope, Cape clawless otter and caracal. Luxury accommodation options.
