We filled each mug with scalding water (95° C) and screwed on its lid. Every hour we inserted a thermomete­r probe through the drinking hole to measure the temperatur­e. Unlike the flasks, which were all 1 ℓ in volume, the mugs differed in size and volume – factors that influenced the comparativ­e heat loss.
