Goshawks galore

go! - - Letters Upfront -

My mom and I recently took up birdwatching. While we were in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park during the July holiday, we pursued our hobby in earnest. My dad and sister tried their best to be patient, even though birds don’t interest them. On the first day we saw a great number of pale chanting goshawks along the road between Twee Rivieren and Nossob. We later decided to keep count – from that point until we exited the park via Twee Rivieren. By the end of the holiday, my sister couldn’t stand the words “pale chanting” any more. We counted 64 birds in total, not counting the ones from the first day. This particular sighting was special because the goshawk had just caught a ground squirrel.
