Robin’s Camp gets a facelift

go! - - Letters Upfront -

My wife Marie and I visited Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe in May this year and we stayed at Robin’s Camp. A few ex-Zimbabweans are responsible for the revival of this classic spot: Mike Sherren and his wife Francie, along with Gavin and Mina Woest. We stayed in the first new chalet that was completed. There are also bigger family chalets. Some chalets are newly built, others are older ones that have been refurbished. Some of the old rondavels have also been fixed up with new bathrooms. Every stand in the campsite has its own braai and three new ablution blocks were under construction when we visited. The new restaurant looks out over the swimming pool and a waterhole, and the old pub has been given a makeover. There are scenic picnic sites and lookouts at waterholes in the area, and the partners have plans for bush camps with safari tents. Robin’s Camp had its official opening in July 2018 ( robinscamp.com). Go and visit! The more tourists that start going back to Zim, the better. DAAN SCHOEMAN, Polokwane
