Regular go! contributor Evan Naudé recently travelled to Switzerland in spring where he spent time in the shadow of the Matterhorn, surely the most iconic peak in the Alps. Its pointy summit – 4 478 m above sea level – inspired fear in early mountaineers and it was one of the last major Alpine peaks to be conquered, by Englishman Edward Whymper and his party in 1865. (Four members of the climbing party fell to their death during the descent.) In this shot, dawn light touches the summit, where a 100 m exposed rocky crest forms the border between Switzerland and Italy. EVAN NAUDÉ
