A little to the left...
I visited Bird Island on the West Coast, with the sole mission of photographing Cape gannets. In Lambert’s Bay, however, I found out that you can’t access the colony before 7 am. At the coast in December, the sun has been up for over an hour by this time already… I was worried about photographing white birds in such harsh light. I soon realised they’re not arctic white, but creamy white. You still have to check your histogram to ensure you’re not overexposing, but it wasn’t nearly as hard as I’d feared. I lucked out one morning when the gates opened earlier, and I got this shot of two gannets preening each other. Ahhh… That’s nice. STU BOWIE, Centurion
