A bear on the edge
Sergey Gorshkov, Russia
A solitary polar bear walks along a glacier in Franz Josef Land – an archipelago of 191 uninhibited islands in the Arctic that was recently added to the expanded Russian Arctic National Park. It’s an image that sums up the perilous predicament of the Arctic in general: the vulnerability of an iconic animal that depends entirely on this frozen wilderness to survive. Sergey’s photo was highly commended in the “Animals in Their Environment” category.
HOW? Nikon D5, Nikon 70 – 200 mm lens, shutter speed 1/3 200 second, aperture f5, ISO 500.
