White lion, tick!

-

I’ve been lucky enough to visit the Kruger Park at least once a year for most of my life. I’ve had many special sightings: African civet, a leopard with two cubs, even an Egyptian vulture… But one animal kept eluding me: the white lion of the Shishangaan pride in the Singita concession, east of Satara rest camp. Until October last year, that is! Ours was the only vehicle next to the S100 when the white lion and his brother crossed the road. Later we learnt that another lion had tried to drive the white lion and his brother out of the pride a week before our visit. The brothers had many visible injuries. We saw the lion a few times thereafter, back with his pride again. It looked like the wounds on his back were healing well. CEEJEE PRETORIUS, Groblersdal
