Sally & Glen Mackay, Durban
Total number of visits: 7 Favourite camp: Letaba
SALLY WRITES: These elephants came to drink on a hot day. I took the photo at Satara, in front of Stanley Guest House.
My husband and I both grew up in Zimbabwe and we both love the bush as a result. Our kids Georgia and Kyle share this love.
We only started visiting the Kruger in 2014, but we’ve since managed to visit all the camps from south to north. We love Letaba’s mopane trees and epic viewpoints – the best sundowner spot is on the Letaba bridge (that’s where this family pic was taken). Pafuri in the far north is magnificent, with its baobabs, riverine areas and
Crook’s Corner.
We love being in the bush for the quietness. You have the opportunity to disconnect from the world and reconnect as a family. You get to see and hear the birds, smell the bush smells, and just breathe.
The bush demands patience and respect for Nature’s time. You can never rush an elephant walking down the middle of the road!
We’ve had many incredible sightings – everything from lions and leopards to honey badgers, an albino squirrel, even a black mamba. Every trip to the Kruger is different; you never know what might be just around the next corner.
