Field guide to Renosterveld of the Overberg

Odette Curtis-Scott, Mike Goulding, Nick Helme, Rhoda McMaster, Sean Privett and Charles Stirton, Struik Nature A field guide to the most threatened vegetation type in the world, of which less than 5 % remains, might seem like a niche choice if you don’t live in the Overberg, but this guide will help unlock a diverse ecosystem that is easy to overlook when you’re travelling through the region. Renosterveld, sometimes referred to as “the ugly sister of fynbos”, seems homogenous at first glance (it only bursts into flower in spring), but this guide describes more than 980 bulbs, flowering plants and grasses, and 140 animal species. Odette Curtis-Scott and her team spent five years documenting this vegetation type to produce the first guide of its kind – the team’s conservation advice will be invaluable for reserve managers and farmers.
