HOW DO WE KNOW WHEN A BIRD IS ENDANGERED?

Every few years, bird experts compile a local Red Data List. This list gives a conservation status to every bird species found in South Africa, Lesotho and eSwatini. The status shows which bird populations are healthy, which are in decline, and which are in danger.

There is also an international Red Data List ( iucnredlist.org) that shows how all animal populations across the world are doing.
