Ford Eco Sport
ME AND MY CAR
In 2018, our family – that’s me, my mom Amelia and our three dogs – decided it was time for a new car. We went hunting for a good second-hand buy. When we saw an
Eco Sport at the Ford dealership in Somerset West, we turned around on the spot to go have a look.
The vehicle on the shop floor had already been sold, but the salesman took us to their Strand branch, where we went on a test drive. My mom took the wheel first because I was too nervous. I was the one who would use the vehicle the most, so it was important that I also felt how it handled on the road. I got my chance in a quieter part of town…
The test drive felt like a dream – as if we were flying, not driving. The vehicle was light and comfortable but still felt very safe.
A week later, we went back to buy it.
I think it’s quite beautiful. The drive to Stellenbosch, where I study agriculture at Elsenburg, has become a dream.
I often have to drive dirt roads to get to a dairy or sheep farm for my studies – the Eco Sport has no problem going off the tar. We’ve also driven to Greyton and Ceres for the weekend, and we sometimes travel up the N7 to attend agricultural shows in other towns. In August, we always head out on Clarence Drive towards Kogel Bay to look for whales. The dogs tag along, of course – Spottie the Jack Russell cross, Bella the dachshund, and Thor the cross breed. They sleep on their beds in the back. On hot days, we put the air conditioning on full blast – it’s doggy heaven! The photo above was taken on the Sweetwaters Road outside Gordon’s Bay.
I’ve started a new business and make my own butter, which I deliver to my customers. The Eco Sport’s screen tells me when my fuel consumption is at its best and it helps me to make my delivery runs as affordable as possible. After three years, the Eco Sport still feels like a brand-new vehicle!
