KOPPIESKRAAL KAMEELPLAAS
Camp on the pan or among evocative black boulders. There are no facilities, save for a pit toilet on the pan. If you want to see the camels up close or watch them being milked, make arrangements with the owners. Braai wood is available for R100 per bag. DREGHORN KALAHARI GAME FARM
The four campsites are surrounded by dunes and far apart from each other. Each stand has a beautiful camel thorn tree and its own bathroom and kitchen. There are five self-catering chalets with a communal braai area on the other side of the dune. The accommodation options are about 1 km from the farmhouse, where there’s a bar and swimming pool.

KALAHARI ERFENIS
This is a great overnight spot if you’re travelling from Gauteng to the Kgalagadi or Botswana. It adds a touch of luxury before or after your bush experience. There are luxury rooms, self-catering safari units and luxury tents. The tents have beds and are pitched under an awning with a braai area. The tents share bathrooms and a kitchen.

LOCH MAREE GUEST FARM
Have a braai at the lookout point on a high dune. You can also tackle their scenic 4x4 route. The field camp has three huts and a campsite with 10 stands. The communal braai and kuier area is well equipped and has power. You can also camp wild in the veld. There’s a toilet and shower and you have to stoke a donkey boiler for hot water.
Where? 195 km from Upington; 85 km from the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
