IAN SAYS: Although there are areas in Mozambique that are no-go zones, Lago Niassa is one of the greatest places on earth. The remoteness of the Mozambican shore, and the sincerity of the people, will always call me back.

• Transfer from Lichinga to Mandimba border: US$100 for the group.

GUIDING

• Francis Makawila (Mozambique): We paid US$100 for his guiding services, and the fishing boat cost US$200 to hire for the group.
