A leading figure in Eastern Province golf for more than half a century, Blenkinsop has passed away at 85. A fine allround sportsman in his youth who represented EP at cricket, he was a regular member of the EP Interprovincial golf team in the 1960s and 1970s, and won various EP titles. He was always guided by the rule that a person must put back more into life than one takes. A member at Walmer CC for nearly 67 years, he was club champion, captain and chairman in his time. He represented Walmer at the Kelly Foursomes for 37 unbroken years, from 1965 to 2002. He was one of the founding committee members of Nomads Eastern Cape in 1971, and his late wife Fenneke was the Nomads match secretary for 30 years. He was active in senior golf, helping found the EP Veterans in 1990, and in 2010 served as president of the Senior Golfers Union of SA. Promising Western Province golfer Michael Sherriff died, age 19, in a car accident over Easter. A Durbanville member, he had represented WP at the last two Premier IPTs after three years at the Junior IPT from 2013 to 2015. Last year he won the PAT Order of Merit, winning four opens in the Cape.
