Western Province ju­niors Deon Ger­mishuys and Fred­die Spencer, both 17, won the 54-hole No­mads tour­na­ments. Spencer, from Steen­berg in Cape Town, sur­prised the coun­try’s top ju­niors by out­play­ing them in the first tour­na­ment of the year, the No­mads In­land at Benoni CC. Rounds of 74-70-70 with 11 birdies gave him a two-shot win over Jayden Schaper and Bran­don Geere, with Christo Lam­precht and Luke Mayo three shots back in fourth. Spencer spent four months in Amer­ica at the end of 2016 at­tend­ing the Gary Gilchrist Academy in Or­lando.

Ger­mishuys, from Strand, had 17 birdies at a windy Royal Dur­ban to win the No­mads Coastal by seven from fel­low WP ju­nior Sa­muel Simpson (Bel­lville) on nine-un­der 210, hav­ing a 67 in the first round.
