Three Gar­den Route golf re­sorts/ es­tates re­ceived in­ter­na­tional ac­claim with pres­tige awards at the end of 2017. Fan­court was hon­oured twice. Most pleas­ing was be­ing named Golf Re­sort of the Year in the Rest of the World cat­e­gory at the 18th IAGTO Awards in France. Fan­court was one of only three re­sorts world­wide – the oth­ers be­ing Peb­ble Beach in Cal­i­for­nia (North Amer­i­can win­ner) and Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus (Euro­pean win­ner) – lauded by the In­ter­na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion of Golf Travel Op­er­a­tors.

Fan­court was named South Africa’s Best Golf Ho­tel 2017 at the World Golf Awards (Spain), which cel­e­brate ex­cel­lence in golf tourism. Win­ners are cho­sen by the golf travel and hospi­tal­ity com­mu­nity, and tourists, through hun­dreds of thou­sands of on­line bal­lots. This is a newer cer­e­mony, es­tab­lished in 2014. “We are thrilled by this recog­ni­tion,” said Peter Dros, Sales and Mar­ket­ing Di­rec­tor at Fan­court. “We pride our­selves on our un­sur­passed o er­ings for golfers.”

Pin­na­cle Point was voted South Africa’s Best Golf Course for a sec­ond con­sec­u­tive year at the World Golf Awards. “To be recog­nised again as the golf­ing des­ti­na­tion in South Africa is a huge hon­our,” said Carl van der Linde, Gen­eral Man­ager of Pin­na­cle Point Es­tate. “Golfers are spoilt for choice when it comes to qual­ity cour­ses in beau­ti­ful set­tings in South Africa, so to be de­clared the best is high praise in­deed,” said Golf Di­rec­tor Nic Grundtvig.

In 2017, Pin­na­cle Point com­pleted sev­eral new de­vel­op­ments as part of its 10-year an­niver­sary, in­clud­ing a re­vamp of the ex­ist­ing club­house, pro shop and restau­rant, con­struc­tion of a new golf cart barn, func­tion venue and wellness cen­tre. “Our fa­cil­i­ties are rst-rate, the views from ev­ery tee sen­sa­tional and the gol ng ex­pe­ri­ence ex­cep­tional,” says Grundtvig.

Morocco was de­clared Africa’s Best Golf Des­ti­na­tion, ahead of South Africa, Egypt and Kenya. Por­tu­gal was the World’s Best Golf Des­ti­na­tion for the fourth year in a row, with the Old Course at St An­drews named the World’s Best Course.

Pezula Golf Club in Knysna achieved an Honourable Men­tion as part of the Plat­inum Clubs of the World (5-star clubs of ex­cel­lence), in the Golf & Coun­try Club cat­e­gory.The Top 100 Clubs and 75 Honourable Men­tions com­prise the top one per­cent of all pri­vate clubs world­wide.

“Pezula has gone through di cult times in the past, and one of the cri­te­ria of this achieve­ment was the abil­ity to turn the club around and into a healthy pro t sit­u­a­tion,” said Pezula club chair­man Al­bert McLean. Leop­ard Creek was ranked No 74 among the Top 100 Clubs – Au­gusta Na­tional was No 1 -- and Royal Jo­han­nes­burg & Kens­ing­ton also re­ceived an Honourable Men­tion.
