Draw in the eye and pull together your décor
1 SHAPE OF THINGS Playing with shape can provide contrast. A round table in a living room filled with straight lines or an ornate antique chair among contemporary furniture will be visually interesting. 2 SOMETHING BIG A standalone feature with larger proportions than everything else can be an effective focal point. Try a beautifully styled mantelpiece and fireplace, a large L-shaped couch, an artwork or an oversized mirror.
3 COLOUR CUES A space that is too matchy-matchy is boring and nondescript. Style a couch with a colourful collection of cushions (a minimum of five) in different shapes and sizes, paint or paper a feature wall, or anchor the room with a brightly patterned rug. GH
