‘Once and for all, is it okay to reheat leftovers in plastic containers?’

Good Housekeeping (South Africa) - - YOUR BODY -

A: There’s been some scary buzz about bisphenol A (BPA), a plastics chemical that’s been linked to long-term risk of chronic disease, but – phew! – reheating in plastic that says ‘microwave-safe’ is okay, as this means that dangerous levels of chemicals won’t get into your grub. In fact, when the Good Housekeeping Institute in the US tested food zapped in these containers, they found no detectable BPA. ‘Our tests included tomato sauce [acidic] and gravy [high-fat], considered likely to leach BPA from the plastic,’ says Betty Gold, GH Institute senior editor and product analyst.
