My Style: Kgotso Gila

The 2019 GQ x Brut Best Dressed Reader’s winning looks from Polo SA blend modern and classic style

-

Every year, our search for South Africa’s Best Dressed starts with the introduction of our Best Dressed Reader Search. For us, it’s always exciting to see your interpretations of style, year round – and no one does bold, unique style that blends heritage and attitude quite like South Africans.

To help us find the best of the best, this year we partnered with Brut South Africa to find a group of nominees who truly represented the essence of man. What does that “essence” mean in 2019? It’s someone who’s consistent with not only their style but with their entire approach to life. He doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone; he doesn’t settle for anything but the best; he stands up for what he believes in; and he’s the ultimate gentleman.

It’s this ethos that informs his style, and gives him that X-factor no matter what he’s wearing and no matter what circles he moves in.

So in June we put you to the task: submit a few photos of your style; and when the time comes, vote for your favourite winner out of the top ten finalists. You spoke and we listened, and the

2019 GQ x Brut Best Dressed Reader Search winner is style consultant, educator and creative Kgotso Gila.

To celebrate his win, we invited Kgotso to experience life as a Best Dressed man. Chauffeured by Lexus in the all-new IS 350 F Sport, our fashion director Jason Basson joined him on a trip to Polo South Africa at the Mall of Africa, where together with the in-store team of stylists and tailors, Kgotso’s keen eye for style led him to choose the gorgeous blue suit you see here.

As a brand with an extensive 40-plus year history of producing high-quality garments in South Africa, Polo was the perfect partner to illustrate, thread by thread, the intersection of modern and classic that results in timeless style.

Then it was off to Sorbet Man for a quick haircut, lunch at Nomad where a bountiful

Brut gift set was waiting for him, and a quick detour to Shop Avenue in Sandton, where he selected his very own Michel Herbelin watch. After getting ready in a suite furnished by

Holiday Inn Sandton, Kgotso made his debut at the GQ Best Dressed awards event.

Always a gentleman, Kgotso’s slick, yet laid back style inspires us everyday. If you’re keen to see more of his looks, head to Gq.co.za or give his Instagram a follow at @kaygilah.
