Vedic meditation: a beginner’s guide
While dozens of apps claim to teach everything you need to know about meditation, all you really need is space to sit down in peace and you’re ready to go.
1
Find somewhere comfortable to sit where you won’t be disturbed – and no, you don’t have to cross your legs.
2
Turn your phone on silent.
3
Set a timer for anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how long you have.
4
Close your eyes.
5
Take three deep breaths then find a slow and steady breathing pattern.
6
Start repeating your mantra, something like ‘Aham Prema’ (I am divine love).
7
If you find your mind drifting, simply return to the mantra.
8
When the timer goes off, slowly move fingers and toes to ease yourself out of meditative state.
9
Open your eyes.
10
Get on with your day.
