Upgrade your TV audio

Want to take your movie nights to the next level? The Sonos Arc is here to level up your home cinema

- ROBERT LEEDHAM

LET’S FACE IT, WE’VE ALL BEEN WATCHING A HELL OF A LOT OF TV LATELY, and unfortunately, the ultra-thin TVS of today simply can’t muster earth-shaking bass and tremulous trebles a dedicated speaker can.

If you want to experience your favourite shows as their creators intended during your extended time at home, physics dictate you’re going to need a soundbar and the all-new Sonos Arc is more than up to the job. As the Apple of wireless speaker makers, Sonos has been dabbling in the TV audio game for a while now. If you’re a proper hi- nerd, then you probably wished for a soundbar with support from something called Dolby Atmos.

And that’s what the Sonos Arc is: the best soundbar Sonos can make. One with 11 ampli ers, eight woofers and three tweeters working across ve audio channels for blockbuster sound. Trust us when we say that’s quite a lot of oomph.

What’s Dolby Atmos? It’s the feature that ensures the Arc really has room- lling sound. As well as ring sound straight at you, Dolby Atmos speakers also blast sound upwards. is then re ects o the ceiling and back towards your ears, so they’re e ectively surrounded by sound.

e Sonos Arc is perfect for cinephiles. Even though the Atmos e ect works across whatever you watch, it’ll work best on content mixed for the format. A majority of 4K Blu-rays now come with an Atmos mix, but for Net ix, you’ll need a Premium subscription.

If you’re sold on the Sonos

Arc, you should be able to get a hold of one now – it was released worldwide on 10 June – for

R17 999 from your selected stores. Just in time for winter weekends on the sofa.
