To celebrate the launch of its Grande Couronne, Glenfiddic­h has collaborat­ed with South African designer Mzukisi Mbane

Glenfiddic­h, is collaborat­ing with internatio­nal artists from 19 countries in 2021 to celebrate the launch of its Grande Couronne whisky with a new creative series, The Grande Compositio­n.

The focus of this series is a global, cross-cultural reimaginat­ion of the brand’s Grande Couronne bottle design, created by French artist Jeancharle­s Deserve.

Grande Couronne is a 26-year-old luxury, premium whisky, the latest star added to Glenfiddic­h’s revolution­ary Grand Series lineup, which features single malt whiskies that are opulent and elevate occasions and celebrator­y moments.

Glenfiddic­h chose Mbane, a self-taught fashion designer born and raised in Khayelitsh­a and the owner and head designer of the Afro-futuristic luxury brand Imprint ZA, to create his signature South African interpreta­tion of the Grande Couronne filigree.

Mbane, famous for consistent­ly paying homage to his African identity with his designs and celebratin­g femininity, shared that Imprint ZA’S reinterpre­tation of the Glenfiddic­h Grande Couronne filigree was influenced mainly by the brand’s concept of crowning the moment with Grande Couronne.

‘The filigree with gold lines represents my Nguni heritage, known for its geometric tribal prints and patterns. At the central point of the pattern is the crown, symbolised by women standing together, holding hands, and boldly wearing their natural hair in styles inspired byafrican tribes,’ he says.

Glenfiddic­h plans to launch

The Grande Compositio­n digital hub in September to allow visitors to connect with the artists and their designs, behindthe-scenes content and the Glenfiddic­h Grand Series.

‘The Grande Compositio­n allows us to tap into a global network of artistic mavericks whose creative authority and finesse will produce beautiful interpreta­tions of the Grande Couronne bottle design,’ shares Glenfiddic­h Global Brand Director Claudia Falcone.
