Arrangements in place for inaugural Clash of the Choirs
ABERDEEN — Arrangements are being ¿nalised for the inaugural Clash of the Choirs festival for the Dr Beyers Naude Local municipality, to be hosted this year by Aberdeen.
A total of 18 choirs will be performing, from throughout the municipality.
There will be church choirs from Aberdeen and Graaff-reinet, schools from Jansenville, Klipplaat, Willowmore, Graaff-reinet and Aberdeen, and community choirs from Steytlerville, Jansenville, Graaff-reinet and Aberdeen. About 250 people are expected to be participating, and some glorious music is anticipated.
The choirs will be adjudicated by a panel of judges, including Garth Hitge (previously Revenue Accountant in Camdeboo Municipality, and organist at St James’ Church), Cllr Notizi Vanda from Jansenville, Zandile Sakata from the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Roberto de Jager (Area Music Coordinator for the New Apostolic Church) and his wife, teacher and musician Esteline.
The Goldrush foundation, which runs the popular casino in Graaff-reinet, has generously sponsored trophies and cash prizes for the winning choir in each of the four categories, and well as lunch boxes for all participants.
Mayor Deon de Vos, who initiated the event, will be present, and other dignitaries from the municipality and the district have also been invited.
The event will start promptly at 10:00, and as there is limited seating available, those wishing to attend are requested to arrive in good time.
