GRAAFF-REINET — Last week the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality started the festive season by switching on the Christmas lights in various towns in the municipality.

In Graaff-reinet, children and a few adults were gathered in the Angel Park in town to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Entertainment for the evening included local musician, Leon Japhta, and the talented Asherville Brass Band, while the speakers for the evening encouraged the residents and children of Graaff-reinet to stay safe this festive season.

Col Beula Siyaya from the South African Police Service, warned children and the youth that they will crack down on crime this festive season. “The police will be patrolling more this festive season to make the residents safe.

GRAAFF-REINET — This Saturday, December 16, there will be a market right in the heart of Graaff-reinet, on the lawns of the Dutch Reformed Church.

Local artisans will be showcasing (and selling!) their products, which will include beads, frames, cards, fudges and other crafts. There will also be food on sale. Criminals use you as children to break into houses and steal. We want you to stay away from them and be safe,” she said. The Mayor, Cllr Deon de Vos, could not attend the event. He did, however, send his regards and well wishes to the community of Graaff-reinet.
