GRAAFF-REINET — He had to dig deep to find newsworthy crimes for the reporting period of December 4 to 11 reports police spokesperson, W/O Gerrie van Rooyen.

On the afternoon of December 6, a 30-yearold female was walking along the N9 just outside of town with two friends.

The trio was approached by three males who confronted and threatened the group. After her two managed to run away the female was dragged into the bushes next to the road and allegedly raped by one of the suspects.

No arrests have yet been made and the police call upon any person who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.

Kwikka Likka on Market Square fell victim once again to burglars after the premises was a target during the night of Friday, December 8. An undisclosed quantity of liquor was stolen during the break-in. burglaries at residential properties were reported at Vink Street Kroonvale and Kingwill drive in town.

A number of petty thefts were reported to have been committed across town while there is a notable increase in domestic-related assaults and abuse.

According to W/O van Rooyen most businesses will be closing for the festive season on Friday, December 15, and an influx of farm workers is expected over the ensuing weekend. This will inevitably draw opportunistic criminals into town that will use every opportunity to pounce on shoppers.

Residents are once again advised to be vigilant and to steer clear of helpful strangers.
