GRAAFF-REINET — Wayne Macpherson of Graaff-reinet, the son of FJ and Mary-jane Macpherson and former pupil of Hoër Volkskool, was the recipient of a very prestigious award at the Nelson Mandela University recently.
The Paul Poisat Engagement Award is awarded to a student who demonstrates academic achievement, community involvement and engagement.
Macpherson was announced as the recipient of the 2017 Paul Poisat Engagement Award based on his character, caring orientation and academic achievements.
As a B Tech student, Macpherson impressed the University’s HR department by taking on a protective role over a fellow student who had no refuge at the time.
In addition, he upholds high ethical standards and serves as a valuable role model to others. Early on in this year, when a lecturer passed on, he graciously stepped in to teach Employment Relations at the University’s Missionvale campus.
Macpherson has just completed his Masters Degree in Labour Relations and HR and will graduate cum laude at the December graduation ceremony.
While working towards this degree, he demonstrated independent and critical thinking, the ability to manage his own development and use feedback as an impetus for learning.
All in all, he embodies the values associated with the Paul Poisat Engagement Award, the HR department as well as the Nelson Mandela University. Wayne Macpherson with his proud parents, FJ and Mary-jane Macpherson.
