Date confirmed for Hike and Hobble for Hospice
GRAAFF-REINET — This year, the popular one-day fundraising walk in aid of the Camdeboo Hospice will be held on Saturday, May 12, and it is not too early for prospective participants to start training!
The walk is from the top of Ouberg on the gravel road, past Riverdene to Nieu Bethesda.
Although advertised as 50km, it is, in fact, closer to 47km, and if training starts now, those with past experience are confident that the distance is well within the reach of many.
“It is a journey of self-discovery and determination and gives you a wonderful sense of achievement” enthused Laura Knott-craig, who has successfully completed the hike for the past two years.
“It also brings you very close to the Lord’s most amazing scenery”.
Participants will be transported to the start and arrangements are made to get back afterwards. The organisers are still working on sponsorship, and more details of the participation of the Nieu Bethesda community will be available later. Last year the hobblers enjoyed a wonderful braai at the Tennis Club at the end of the hike.
The entrance fee is sponsorship of R1 000 or more. Cyclists and runners are also welcome, and the organisers point out that it would be very good training for the Comrades marathon on June 9.
The starting time is 06:00. It is stressed that it is not a race, so everyone is able to walk at their own pace.
Entry forms and further information can be obtained from Sharon Shell on 084 548 5373 or admin@unionschools.co.za
A 2-day hike will also be held over the same course, on the same weekend - more details will be available at a later stage. A lot of fun was had during 2017’s Hike and Hobble for Hospice.
