Aberdeen detective praised for his hard work
ABERDEEN — Good detective work by Detective Constable Jean Jack led to the arrest of a 48-year-old suspect in Garies in the Northern Cape. Last September, the suspect introduced himself to the complainant as a mechanic from Cape Town. The complainant had a problem with a cylinder head of his vehicle, and the suspect told him that he would fix the cylinder head in Cape Town. The complainant paid a total amount of R5 200 to the suspect who then disappeared with the money and the cylinder head, which was valued at R12 000. A case of theft under false pretences was opened. The Aberdeen Detective branch is proud to have a dedicated member such as D/cst Jack. He traced the suspect, obtained a warrant for arrest and then arranged with Garies Detectives to arrest the suspect. The suspect appeared in Garies court on February 8 and the case was postponed to the Aberdeen court until February 15 for legal aid. Detective warrant officer Naude Frazenburg, who was in Cape Town for investigation duties, collected the suspect from the Garies Police Station on February 9 for his appearance in the Aberdeen court. There were two minor cases opened during the last week. On February 9, at about 21:30, a vehicle was broken into in Petunia Street, Lotusville. The suspect opened the doors of the vehicle, and then the bonnet, and stole the Willard battery from the vehicle. The police recovered the battery, valued at R750, behind the house of the complainant. The case is still under investigation. In a case of theft, one spotlight with a value of R400 was stolen from the grounds of a school. This case is also still under investigation.
