Eskom will not be interrupting power
There was immense relief experienced by residents of Jansenville, Willowmore and Steytlerville on Monday, 29 October, when Eskom announced that it will not be implementing the proposed power supply interruptions that were due to start on 30 October.
In a press release issued on Monday, 29 October, Eskom announced that the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality will not be affected by the bulk electricity supply interruption. The decision was made last Friday when the municipality, together with the Inxuba Yethemba Municipality (which includes Middelburg) made arrangements to start paying off the outstanding debt. Bulk electricity supply interruption to Great Kei Local Municipality will however still go ahead.
“Should Dr Beyers Naudé and Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipalities deviate from the agreement, Eskom reserves the right to resume with the electricity supply interruptions after issuing a 14-day notice. Eskom remains hopeful that a repayment agreement will be reached with Great Kei Local Municipality to avert the scheduled interruptions as Eskom remains mindful of the impact such supply interruptions will have on the consumers. The interruption of supply to municipalities for non-payment is always implemented as a measure of last resort.” When requested for comment, the municipality confirmed that there will be no power disruptions and that an agreement has been reached between the parties. “We again, sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that might have been caused to the community due to the former press release by Eskom,” concluded the response.
