Basil Hector - a true gentleman of Bethesda, passes away

-

NIEU-BETHESDA — The people of Nieu-bethesda were saddened this past weekend to hear of the passing of Basil Hector.

Basil’s gentle spirit and dedicated work ethic were well known to people in the village who will miss him dearly. Having worked in many of the gardens in the village, Basil was well loved by his employees.

He had a special love for roses and vegetables and prided himself in the beautiful gardens he helped create on properties such as at the Ibis and Elke’s guesthouse.

There are many rose bushes that flourish in the village – originally drafted by Basil from cuttings and lovingly raised to healthy bushes.

Basil had two children with his late wife, Fiela. He later remarried Lisbeth and displayed great love for his four grandchildren for whom he loved to save up and buy treats such as a walking ring or a toy.

Basil was always one to greet with a cheerful wave as you passed his places of work.

He believed in building relationships with people, and while cancer and pain plagued him in his later life, he continued to seek employment which at which he worked to the best of his ability.

Basil’s soft laugh, twinkling eye and broad, crooked smile will be sorely missed in this community.
