12 new records set
The 16th annual interschools athletics meeting, between Union High School and Hoër Volkskool, was held on Wednesday, 17 October at Hoër Volkskool.
It was a windy afternoon, but that did not stop the two schools from taking part in big numbers and breaking a total of 12 records during the event.
The new records were set by:
Volkskool's Shirwan van Staden: Boys U.19 100m - 10,78 sec
Union's Iviwe Ndamane: Boys U.19 800m - 2:8,35 sec
Volkskool's Marion de Boer: Girls U.19 1500m - 5:36,06 sec
Volkskool's Jay-dee Jooste: High Jump Boys U.17 - 1,88m and Long Jump Boys U.17 - 6,45m
Volkskool's Caryn Swartz: Girls U.17 100m - 13,00sec and Long Jump Girls U.17 - 4,97m
Volkskool's Tiané Lombard: Shot Put Girls U.16 - 10,77m
Union's Olweyhu Ngwenya: Boys U.15 200m - 23,39 sec
Volkskool's Marni van der Merwe: Girls U.15 - 12,70sec
Union's Likhona Finca : Boys U.14 400m - 1:2,57 sec
Volkskool's Elize de Jager: Girls U.14 1500m - 5:53,25 sec
The day was concluded with exciting relay events.
Volkskool won the U.19 girls 4X100m relay with Union's team winning the final event of the day, the U.19 boys 4x100m relay.
