The or­ga­ni­sers of the an­nu­al Graaff-rei­net Ca­len­dar pho­to­grap­hy com­pe­ti­ti­on would li­ke to thank all tho­se, both young and not so young, who en­te­red their pho­to­grap­hs in­to the com­pe­ti­ti­on for the 2019 ca­len­dar.

T­his ye­ar the ca­len­dar is being pro­du­ced by Coun­try Mou­se De­sign and Prins­loo Pho­to­grap­hy, di­vi­si­ons of Ka­roo Mar­ke­ting. The com­bi­na­ti­on of well-kno­wn lo­cal pho­to­grap­her C­har­le­ne Prins­loo’s in­put with Ni­co­la Bel­don’s de­sign skills should rai­se the stan­dard of t­his ye­ar’s ca­len­dar e­ven hig­her.

The jud­ges t­his ye­ar we­re Ni­co­la Bel­don, C­har­le­ne Prins­loo, Lie­sl Heu­nis, An­zis­ke Ke­ys­ter, and Kim Im­rie. The­re was much de­li­be­ra­ti­on a­mongst the jud­ges, due to the wi­de ran­ge of sub­ject mat­ter and ex­per­ti­se. The fi­nal choi­ce as win­ner of the 2019 P­ho­to­graphic Com­pe­ti­ti­on is Nan­tie S­tols for her pho­to­graph of a hot air bal­loon flying low o­ver the s­now-co­ve­r­ed Loots­berg pass. The o­ver­all com­po­si­ti­on and u­nu­su­al sub­ject of t­his pho­to clin­ched the a­ward!

Se­cond pla­ce g­oes to Ro­bert King­will for his stri­king farm sce­ne with the ma­je­stic Com­pass­berg in the back­ground. The pho­to­graph shows a shep­herd on horse­back, with a bor­der col­lie her­ding catt­le up a farm ro­ad.

T­hi­rd pla­ce is a­war­ded to Sin­ja de S­wardt for her na­tu­ral pho­to­graph of child­ren swim­ming in a rain­wa­ter pudd­le in Man­de­la Park.

The jud­ges al­so li­ked Kit­ty Vil­joen's pho­to­graph, which was seen by thou­sands on Fa­ce­book, of gi­raf­fes in the s­now, as well as C­he­v­on­ne Prins­loo’s shot of a fen­ce post at sunset, and Ga­wie Bas­son's black and whi­te pho­to­graph of a farm ga­te.

The ca­len­dar, which will ha­ve 12 full-pa­ge co­lour pho­to­grap­hs, will be a­vai­la­ble from se­lected lo­cal out­lets from the end of the month. It will be a­vai­la­ble in A3 si­ze for R150 and A4 for R120.
