A­round 100 lo­cal acts took part in the au­di­ti­ons for S­ho­w­vil­le Se­a­son 2, hos­ted in Graaff-rei­net in March t­his ye­ar.

The SABC 2 re­a­li­ty pro­gram­me S­ho­w­vil­le ma­kes dre­ams a re­a­li­ty by brin­ging the gla­mour and glitz of te­le­vi­si­on to the small, re­mo­te and of­ten o­ver­look­ed dor­pies a­cross South A­fri­ca.

On T­hurs­day, 22 March, du­ring the au­di­ti­ons at the A­lex Laing Hall, ho­pe­fuls of all a­ges, in­clu­ding so­me well-kno­wn lo­cal sin­gers and dan­cers, we­re keen to s­how w­hat they've got.

At the end of the day, the s­how's hos­ts se­lected the four acts they felt would put on the best s­how for the town.

On day two, the co­a­ches be­gan their men­tors­hip of each fi­na­list in pre­pa­ra­ti­on for the big s­how in be­t­ween jug­gling their re­al jobs, their fa­mi­lies and their ner­ves.

Day three broug­ht the fi­nal com­pe­ti­ti­on in front of a li­ve, lo­cal au­dien­ce. He­re it was up to the per­for­mers' fel­low ci­ti­zen­ry - in­clu­ding friends, fa­mi­ly, co-wor­kers and neig­hbours to choo­se the win­ning per­for­mer.

From the au­di­ti­ons to the co­a­ching through to s­how nig­ht, SABC 2 was the­re to cap­tu­re each me­mo­ra­ble mo­ment.

On Oc­to­ber 28, Graaff-rei­net­ters could see it all du­ring the TV bro­ad­cast ai­red on SABC 2. In the end, The Ma­rim­ba Kids con­sis­ting of Car­lo Hen­dricks, Nat­han Wes­sels, Mar­lon Harm­se and Tof­feec Jaf­tha we­re cro­w­ned as the win­ners, re­cei­ving R10 000 and a glit­te­ring trop­hy sig­ni­fying that they are the stars of their town.

The Ma­rim­ba Kids, play the Ma­rim­ba

- an i­di­op­ho­ne that is soun­ded by stri­king wooden bars with a mal­let and is in­structed by lo­cal E­ric Pie­ter­son, who has been te­a­ching them to mas­ter the in­stru­ment sin­ce 2009.

The Ma­rim­ba Kids are Nat­han Wes­sels, Mar­lon Harm­se, Tof­feec Jaf­tha and Car­lo Hen­dricks.
