Sixteen personal bests shatter at Mountain Drive parkrun

-

A misty Saturday morning saw 64 people gather to walk, jog or run the Mountain Drive parkrun in Graaff-reinet on 13 July.

Visitors on the day came as far as Kempton Park, Cape Town, Maritzburg and even England.

One runner noted how this local route might just be the most difficult in South Africa. However, this has not been confirmed.

Despite the tough terrain, sixteen participants did manage to record new personal bests, and Jenna Bedlon and Brendan Baans (both u18) achieved their 10th parkrun.

Ethan Bantom managed to cross the finish line first in the men's category, with his excellent time of 23:42.

This is a personal best for Bantom. First among the ladies, also with a stunning time, was Hildegard Wessels with 31:51.

The event was made possible by volunteers Lusan Luscombe, Rozelle Köhne, Peter Burdett, Mike Calitz, Shirley Spencer, Charles Maasdorp, Jacqui Taylor-freeme, Raymond van Staden, Daleen Hobson, Jenna Beldon and Kim Spencer Primic.

A special thanks goes to Mixie Goedhals for the delicious chocolate and oats snacks she gave to the volunteers.
