-

Animal Care Team in partnership with the State Veterinary Office is celebrating their

4th Oudtshoorn Animal Day. For the love of animals, the Animal Care Team and the State Veterinary Office Oudtshoorn under the wonderful leadership of Dr Cathy Fox and her team, Albie Storm, Carel, Thean and Dr Hans Britz, our 2022 compulsory community service vet, are hosting this amazing event.

This day was created as part of the State Veterinary Office’s Community Outreach Program that focuses on rabies prevention.

Rabies is a fatal viral infection of the brain; this virus is spread by contact with infected saliva of a rabid (wild) animal. Humans can also contract rabies if they come into contact with infected animals. Fortunately, rabies is easily prevented by ensuring that your pet is vaccinated for rabies annually.

Free rabies vaccines will be available on the day for all dogs and cats including puppies and kittens. There will be a fun-filled market day with many delightful stalls and lots of entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Lots of staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist and advise you on health matters regarding your pets.

When coming for vaccinations you must please ensure your dogs are on leashes and all cats in crates to ensure that everyone’s personal space and safety are respected. Should your pet be a bit of a handful, please approach the staff or volunteers for assistance.

There will be a dog obstacle course for those who want to test their pets' skills.

Best dressed pets and owners could stand a chance to win spot prizes.

Proceeds from this day will enable Animal Care to continue providing much-needed assistance through our Community Welfare Clinic to the people within our community who can’t afford private veterinary care. The Animal Care Team’s number one focus is to sterilise as many pets in need as possible every year and to provide preventative and emergency care for pets. The clinic is strictly for those that don’t have the financial means to afford private care and those earning below the breadline.

Furthermore, the Animal Care Team raise the funds required to do this work and this is not paid for by the State.

Different activities to help make a difference for local animals includes a doggy obstacle course (R5), kids face painting, free kids magic show at 09:30, spin the wheel (R5), nail art, gifts, art, playdough, pancakes, dog nail clipping (R5), Ice cream, candyfloss, boerewors stall, pulled pork burgers, amazing second-hand stall and dog treats galore.
