Luxolo school closed

ABERDEEN - Last week parents and the School Governing Body (SGB) at Luxolo Intermediate School, Thembalesizwe, Aberdeen locked down the school premises for health and safety reasons.

Despite the school being closed on Wednesday all personnel pitched for work the next day, 15 September.

"We miss our learners, but as you can see, we are here, working," the principal, Christo Frazenburg, said.

Maureen Jacobs, a parent and member of the SGB explained, "Everyone is here. But we cannot allow them inside the premises. We feel sorry for them that they have to work like this. But we are proud that they are working, even though they have to work outside in the street."

Frazenburg was proud of the personnel pitching for work, even though there were no learners to teach. "We will just have to come to work here in the street and work until Wednesday 21 September, when the Department of Education will visit the school again."

Whether the school will reopen after the meeting next week remains to be seen. "It all depends on the Department", one of the parents said.
