End-of-year excursion enjoyed by Union’s Grade 4s
During the last week of school, the Grade 4 learners of Union Primary embarked on their highly anticipated annual end-of-year excursion.
This trip marked the culmination of their time as Preppies, celebrating their accomplishments and preparing them for the exciting journey awaiting them in Grade 5.
On Monday 20 November, the first day of the excursion, the learners set off for the VW Factory in Uitenhage. They were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the production line, witnessing the intricate process of assembling vehicles.
Next was a visit to the Sanccob Penguin Sanctuary in Gqeberha, where the youngsters gained valuable insights into the detrimental effects of pollution on the coastline and the measures they can take to protect it.
After a day of discovery and conservation, the group made their way to the
UCSA campsite in Jeffreys Bay, where they stayed over for the duration of their excursion.
Tuesday started with the extraordinary experience of reading heartfelt letters penned by their loved ones while the rising sun painted the sky in vibrant hues.
At the nearby fun park, they were treated to games, go-karting adventures, putt-putt and a wide range of thrilling rides.
In the afternoon, the Grade 4s took a scenic walk to the Shell Museum in
Jeffreys Bay, where they were greeted by an experienced educator who enlightened them about the variety of shells found along the southern coast.
They explored Paradise Beach and participated in a 3km shoreline walk collecting litter.
The learners enjoyed a sokkie to end off the day while the teachers handled the braaiing. On Wednesday, everyone enjoyed a last splash in the sea before heading home.
