Funtastic charity golf day

-

The annual Pick ‘n Pay Christmas charity golf day was played in cool and drizzly conditions and was well supported by a big field of 62 golfers.

The full field got off to a proper shotgun start at 12:40 after the usual banter prior to the game. Many visitors and non-regular golfers played in the American Scramble format, which made the event run smoothly.

The organisation of the day, from the impressive array of prizes through the registration, ample watering holes and catering for all participants, was slick and the players felt well looked after the entire day.

The competition was tight, but the eventual winners were Henry Galloway and Riaan Meyer on 44 points. Henry had the added bonus of scoring his first ever hole in one on the sixth hole where his rapier-like tee shot pitched and landed in the hole.

The second placed team was the defending champions, Priscilla West and Rico Bester on 43 points.

Third place went to Chris Lee and F Fourie (42) ahead of Cheryl Waddelow and Patrick Ludick (41). The field prizes went to Phillipie Wolfaardt for longest drive and closest to the pin on 4/13 while Henry Galloway took the closest on sixth. Ladies longest drive was taken by Sharon Krige down the eighteenth fairway.

Father Christmas even visited the club to entertain the kids and join in the ladies Whitley Neill gin tasting.

The club thanks Pick ‘n Pay GraaffReinet for a fantastic sponsorship that will benefit those less fortunate this festive season.

The golf club will be open for social play every day this December except for Christmas Day, so any visitors to the town are more than welcome to play early morning or later on the summer afternoons, which are perfect for some exercise.
