Recapping on a year of great golf

-

The Graaff-Reinet Golf Club has enjoyed a very successful golfing year with some outstanding achievements. Top of the list was the achievements of 16-year-old Johndré Ludick, who was selected for the South African u.16 team that toured in Italy to play various other nations. He was also selected for the South African u.19 team to play in Egypt, where he came second overall. As a schoolboy golfer, he was selected for the Eastern Province (EP) senior team to play against all other provinces on the East London layout. There he was unbeaten after four days of golf against men far more experienced than himself. He was also an integral part of the EP u.19 team at their interprovincial tournament in Pretoria and closed off the year by winning our own Midlands Open against strong opposition by three strokes.

Other notable achievements were the crowning of Patrick Ludick as GraaffReinet club champion after a tussle with NJ Arnoldi. On senior level, Johnny Ludick was part of the EP Seniors team to San Lameer, and Johnny Ludick, Patrick Ludick and NJ Arnoldi were strong players in the EP Country Districts team at Devonvale.

The club hosted a most successful Proudfoot Tournament in March that was well supported by many out-of-town visitors. Bokkedag was a great golf day where the second annual Town versus Country challenge for the Camdebo Cup was won by the farmers team. The club also hosted senior golfers from four provinces for their quadrangular tournament which they love playing in Graaff-Reinet. The club received amazing support from local business houses who supported the club generously with

prizes and monetary donations and the club members are most grateful for their continued support.

Development golf also got a kickstart with club members assisting with coaching of youngsters in the rules of the game, etiquette and good swing habits. The Graaff-Reinet Golf Club welcomes any new entrants to the sport and the clubhouse offers a very relaxing venue.
