On a very dusty afternoon on Sunday 24 March, Dangerous Darkies faced Everton United from Aberdeen at uMasizakhe Stadium, clinching a 3-2 victory, while Morocco Kids and uMasizakhe United settled for a 1-1 draw.
The Darkies showcased their prowess against Everton United, demonstrating their excellent form by securing a 3-1 lead in the first half. Although Everton scored first within the initial ten minutes, the Darkies maintained control of the game.
This past weekend marked the teams' preparations for the Easter weekend tournament, scheduled from 29 March to 1 April. The organisers of this year's tournament, Whitehouse Tavern, expressed their commitment to fostering development not only in football but also within the entire community.
They emphasised the positive impact of Easter weekend tournaments on local businesses and community development. Despite challenges such as vandalism of sports facilities, football has persisted. The absence of standard playing fields remains a concern, with games often played on dusty surfaces that transform into mud on rainy days.
The uMasizakhe Stadium will host the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals of the tournament. Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality is actively involved in repairing and maintaining the fields, urging the community to refrain from vandalising their own property, as said by Vuyisile Cedric Yeyana, chairperson of the Local Football Association. Anticipation is mounting as teams prepare for the Easter weekend tournament. Dangerous Darkies, absent from last year's Easter Tournament, aim to reclaim their former championship status. Lusanda Tona, a fan and supporter of Dangerous Darkies, anticipates a thrilling tournament that will benefit the community.
Thirty-two teams are expected to participate, with substantial prizes up for grabs. Football enthusiasts are encouraged to support their teams throughout the tournament.
