Proudfoot tournament a swinging success
The Proudoot Hole-in-One tournament was held from 21 to 23 March. Derek
Helm, a club committee member, says that it was a wonderful long weekend of golf with Proudfoot seeing more than 300 rounds played on the course. "Visitors from Somerset West, George, Port Elizabeth, Colesberg, and St Francis were all very complimentary about the condition of our greens, fairways and arrangements. The quantity and standard of the food provided to players and visitors were of Michelin star quality," says Helm.
The format for the first day was a four-ball alliance with two scores to count, with the winners Team Roos with 91, followed by Team Pretorius with 89 and Team Swartz with 86.
Bernie Weyer provided the highlight of the day when he holed his tee shot on the 15th hole for a remarkable hole in one.
Day two dawned hot and humid, and the better-ball competition was much tighter as players got used to the conditions and the speed of the greens. Johndré Ludick shot seven under par and won the better-ball competition with Richard Swartz. The final day saw cooler weather, and C&Y Watson led with a score of 67, followed by Rico Bester and Brad Costa with 65, and Jeremy Cloete and Derek Helm with 64. Proudfoot also had an individual winner for the player who played most consistently over all three days. The winner was René Roos - 116, followed by Wayne Smith - 108 and Kobus Wolmarans - 108, all visitors from out of town. The highest-placed local players were Johndré Ludick with 104 and Danovan Arries with 101.
