Gomora triumphs over Black Arrows in Easter tournament

The Easter Weekend Tournament held at uMasizakhe Stadium saw Gomora clinch victory over Black Arrows with a 2-1 win in a fiercely contested match.

The event drew enthusiast­ic support from fans as they rallied behind their teams. With 27 teams participat­ing, each harboured hopes of claiming the coveted prize money and a new team kit.

The tournament, which ran from Friday 29 March to Monday 1 April, utilised both the Kroonvale soccer field and uMasizakhe stadium for matches. Despite inclement weather leading up to the tournament, the fields remained dust-free until the final game on Monday afternoon. During the second half of the final, windy conditions stirred up dust, followed by rain, providing a challengin­g environmen­t for the players.

The trophy and prize money were presented to the winning team by the proprietor­s of the White House Tavern. In the quarter-final matches held at uMasizakhe Stadium on Sunday 30 March,

Gomora secured a 1-0 victory against Amampondo FC, while Black Arrows FC triumphed 6-4 over Fast Eleven FC from Middleburg. Morocco Eagles and Morocco Kids FC played to a 1-1 draw, with Morocco Eagles clinching the win on penalties (5-4). Indoda Emnyama FC defeated Birds United FC with a score of 1-0.

The semi-finals, held on Sunday morning at uMasizakhe stadium, witnessed Black Arrows defeating Indoda Emnyama with a score of 2-0, while Gomora secured a 2-0 victory over Morocco Eagles. In the third-place play-off between Indoda Emnyama and Morocco Eagles, Indoda Emnyama emerged victorious with a score of 2-1.

The final match between Gomora and Black Arrows FC showcased a tough battle between two township teams, captivatin­g spectators with its intensity. Gomora emerged as the tournament champions, claiming the first prize of significan­t prize money, a trophy, gold medals, and a new kit. Black Arrows FC secured the second prize, which included medals and prize money, while Indoda Emnyama clinched the third prize, also receiving medals and prize money.
