Midlands receive hawk’s eye
Vernon Mostert, district information manager for the Sarah Baartman District, underscores the transformative impact of the HMS. He explains that the system will furnish Midlands Hospital with a comprehensive digital infrastructure, spanning from registration desks to all wards and facilities.
Real-time patient records will be readily accessible to authorised personnel, offering insights into patient whereabouts, treatment history, attending physicians, prescriptions, diagnoses, and more.
Mostert elaborates on the expediency brought forth by the HMS, emphasising its ability to expedite processes and ensure continuity of care, even in cases of patient referrals to other hospitals. "The system is integrated with Laboratory Services for faster lab result turnaround and also linked with Health Patient Registration System (HPRS) that is currently used in clinics," says Mostert.
The system empowers healthcare providers with comprehensive patient insights, facilitating informed decisionmaking at every stage of care delivery. Furthermore, Mostert highlights the system's role in curbing misuse of healthcare services by individuals with medical aid coverage, ensuring that revenues are accurately collected and allocated. Looking ahead, future developments include the digitisation of older patient records, ensuring seamless integration with the HMS.
Presently, the system is operational at select healthcare facilities including Humansdorp Provincial Hospital, Settlers Hospital in Grahamstown, Port Alfred Hospital, Midlands Hospital and Andries Vosloo Hospital.
The adoption of the HMS heralds a new era of efficiency, transparency and patientcentric care within Midlands Hospital and beyond, setting a precedent for healthcare excellence in the Eastern Cape region.
