The Graaff Reinett Golf Club hosted its highly anticipated 2024 Club Championships over the weekend, blessed with splendid autumn weather that set the stage for some intense competition on the greens.
In the A division, where golfers with handicaps less than 10 vied for supremacy, the challenge was rigorous with players tackling 36 holes each on Saturday and Sunday. Despite the demanding format, Johndré Ludick, representing GraaffReinet and a prominent Golf RSA player, showcased his skill and resilience, clinching a commanding nine-stroke victory. Ludick finished atop the leaderboard. leaving a fast-closing Rico Bester trailing behind on 302. Rowan George secured the third spot with a respectable score of 307. Notably, Johnny Ludick and Patrick Ludick, the 2023 Champion, claimed the minor places in the competition.
Meanwhile, the B division saw Derek
Helm emerge victorious, besting Deon
Arnoldi to claim the title. Cheryl Waddelow triumphed in the ladies' division, while Jacques Wagener secured the C division championship. In the Senior's category, Eddie Nel emerged as the titleholder, adding another accolade to his illustrious golfing career.
Amidst the fierce competition, the GraaffReinet Golf Club took a moment to express appreciation to its Proudfoot sponsors during a well-attended gratitude dinner on Saturday evening, acknowledging their invaluable support for the event.
Adding to the excitement of the tournament, the club welcomed esteemed guests on Sunday, including Dave Richardson, former Protea wicketkeeper and recent Head of the International Cricket Council, along with Kenny McEwan, a celebrated top-order batsman from Eastern Province cricket's golden era. The visitors, accompanied by their friends and spouses, were impressed by the superb condition of the course, adding to the prestige of the event.

The 2024 Club Championships proved to be a memorable affair, showcasing both the competitive spirit and camaraderie that define the Graaff-Reinet Golf Club communtiy.
